Bulk Update — Feedback & Feature Requests

The Bulk Update tool is great for managing users at scale, but a few areas could use improvement.

1. Output of Changes

At the final confirmation screen, it would be helpful to see a clearer summary of what’s changing — or have an option to export a file showing each user’s previous restrictions versus what they’ll be updated to. This makes it easier to audit the operation before committing.

2. Roll Back Function

If something goes wrong — a user accidentally included, a wrong setting applied — the only current fix is contacting Phocas for a full point-in-time site restore, which also wipes any other changes made by users in the meantime (new reports, new users, etc.). A granular rollback tied to the specific Bulk Update operation would eliminate this risk and make the tool something admins can use with confidence.

3. Performance at Scale

With around 1,200 users, the Bulk Update confirmation dialog takes quite a while to load. We did some digging and found that most of the wait appears to be on the server side — roughly 22 seconds before the browser receives a response — rather than anything on our end. We’ve noticed similar patterns in a few other areas of the admin experience as well, like dashboard and Users page load times. We’d love to see these response times improve over time, and in the meantime a progress indicator on the dialog would really help ease the uncertainty while it loads.
