Calling all NAV users (lovers or haters!)

Notice a few posts in the Epicor section, I can’t be the only NAV user!!

Anyone come across any oddities in NAV that might be of use to anyone?

Ours is highly customised so it’s hard to tell now what is core NAV and what is an add-on.

The company I worked for previous to my current employer uses Nav, I just demo’d our Phocas setup to them last week and now they are interested in building their first database and I have offered my assistance to them as I know both Nav and Phocas. It is going to be interesting to see how the implementation goes.

Good luck Shane, if you’ve worked with NAV for a while and dug under the hood a bit (even without coding) you get a feel for the tables.

Here in DK where we (the Phocas Nordic partner) are located, there are quite a few customers using NAV, in one of the many generations and versions NAV comes in (Navision, Attain, C5, Dynamic NAV, Navision STAT, Business Central etc.).

We have been in touch with various versions already, to implement Phocas on-top. A part from an older Navision Attain native firebird DB, it has been pretty straightforward and standardized!
An indispensable resource when it comes to understanding the Navision data-model and tables, are the https://dynamicsdocs.com/nav site.

The most oddities, I think, comes from setting up the Finance Database using the Financial Statement module in Phocas - as each customer works with different accounting and charts of accounts principles.

As we see more and more customers moving to the Cloud-versions of ERPs, incl. Business Central hosted with Microsoft, the challenges somewhat shift to different ones. In this regard, the upcoming Phocas Cloud Sync-feature is much anticipated - to be able to connect to cloud services using web based REST & OData APIs. Definitely the next-generation way of accessing data for many systems and customers!

this was low on responses, a long time user of Nav, but new to Phocas
